http://www.Cppcon.org — Presentation Slides, PDFs, Source Code and other presenter materials are available at: https://github.com/cppcon/cppcon2015 — Security vulnerabilities are fundamentally defects in our code. We know many of these defects stem from string processing, buffer overflows and integer underflow and overflows. These defects become security vulnerabilities when an attacker can crash an application, cause undefined behavior that leads to a Denial of Service, privilege escalation or hidden installation of rogue software. So how do we build more secure C++ software? It starts by gaining an understanding of the basics of security vulnerabilities and how to identify them using the rich set of tools we now have available. With this foundation we can build a development culture wh...

Linus Torvalds transformed technology twice — first with the Linux kernel, which helps power the Internet, and again with Git, the source code management system used by developers worldwide. In a rare interview with TED Curator Chris Anderson, Torvalds discusses with remarkable openness the personality traits that prompted his unique philosophy of work, engineering and life. "I am not a visionary, I'm an engineer," Torvalds says. "I'm perfectly happy with all the people who are walking around and just staring at the clouds ... but I'm looking at the ground, and I want to fix the pothole that's right in front of me before I fall in." TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of th...
Business owners always dream about system that will let them change its behaviour without involving coders. This desire is event stronger in enterprises, when coders are usually in different company. We’ve seen many examples: BPMN, DSLs, Drools, and many in-house samples. Big vendors and open source projects promise miracles – and usually do not deliver – or at least not to expected extent… During more than 10 years in our industry I’ve seen and taken part in many such efforts. I’d like to share my experiences – what is (almost) doomed to be a failure, what can only depend on structure of organisation and when can we expect some modest success. I will also tell about our current experiences – this time more in domain of stream processing and real time decisions in telco industry – which ...
In Timisoara area there are around 12-13,000 people working in IT and the demand on the labour market is overwhelming. The local universities simply cannot supply enough engineers. These explain the huge success in Timisoara of the CoderDoJo - the teach kids to code initiative. Professional coders from the industry are volunteering to lead groups of 10-14 years old kids in learning to code games, apps and even full software. The idea originated in Ireland, the network is now pan-european and is spreading fast inside Romania and abroad. For the kids the experience is a lot more than looking smart & cool, is a way to make new friends and be part of a team, something very similar to scouting.

Since then, I taught myself multiple coding languages including HTML, Java, Python and Swift. This has lead me to create two apps that have been published on the iOS App Store. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.c...
